Ranieri: Jose could lose
job
Claudio Ranieri believes Jose Mourinho's failure to deliver the
UEFA Champions League could cost him his job.
Chelsea lost to Liverpool in the semi-final on Tuesday night and
appeared to lose their grip on the Premiership on Saturday when
they failed to beat Bolton.
Despite winning the Carling Cup in 2004, Chelsea owner Roman
Abramovich dismissed Ranieri later that year after he lost the
Champions League semi-final to Monaco and failed to clinch a league
title.
Mourinho is still on course to deliver the FA Cup, but Ranieri sees
parallels with his final year at the club and is concerned that his
successor is about to suffer the same fate.
"Abramovich wants to win the Champions League. He wants Chelsea at
the top of the world," he told in an interview.
"Jose Mourinho is working very well, but I don't know what could
happen.
"The Carling Cup wasn't enough for me after four years - is it
enough for Mourinho? I don't know."
Ranieri is unsure why Chelsea could not overcome Liverpool, but he
believes it was Chelsea's failure to score more than once at
Stamford Bridge that proved costly.
"I'm not sure what happened. But he (Abramovich) wants it. I think
the match was fantastic and the second leg was fantastic.
"Chelsea lost the match at home at Stamford Bridge when Jose Reina
made two great saves."
Ranieri has been linked with a move back to the Premiership with
Chelsea's local rivals Fulham in the summer.
But, although he admits he still loves the English game, he
maintains that he is happy in his current job at Parma.
"England has fantastic atmosphere, great football, great fans," he
concluded.
"At the moment, I am at Parma and in a very good moment."
Asked if there had been any specific approaches from English clubs,
he said: "I don't know. I have heard nothing myself, I don't know
about my agent."
