AS Roma believe they are ready to upset United
By James Eve

ROME (Reuters) - AS Roma's players are confident they can produce another giant-killing performance and beat Manchester United in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Wednesday.

After eliminating Olympique Lyon with a 2-0 away win in the last 16, the Serie A side are confident they can upset the odds and beat the Premier League leaders.

United manager Alex Ferguson will be treating Roma with the utmost respect, too, because he rated Lyon as one of the best teams in the competition before their elimination.

"United have shown they are in great form in their league, but we can really push them. Our win over Lyon told us we are capable of beating anyone," said Brazilian winger Mancini, one of several technically-gifted players who could trouble United, especially in the torrid atmosphere of Rome's Olympic Stadium.

Roma captain Francesco Totti warned United not to underestimate him -- or his side.

"Obviously it's a big satisfaction to be among the top eight teams in Europe, but that doesn't mean we want to stop there. We want to go on," said the 30-year-old striker.

Totti, who is revered by many Italians as the country's best footballer, was stung when Ferguson forgot to name him as one of the players his side would need to watch out for.

"Ferguson, you will learn who Totti is. He will see personally. I hope to make him remember my name," Totti told Italian satellite broadcaster SKY.

"Hopefully, they will not try their diving and cheating tricks like in the EPL or like what happened in Lille's match. We will not take it lightly" added Totti.

VIDIC ABSENT

United will travel to Rome without Nemanja Vidic who has broken his collar-bone and is likely to be sidelined for the rest of the season, while they are unlikely to risk striker Louis Saha who has just recovered from a hamstring injury.

Both teams have been in good form in Europe with Roma keeping a clean sheet in their last three Champions League matches and United winning their last three with a clean sheet in the last two.

United and Roma have never met in European competition and the English side will be looking to improve on their poor record in Italy of just two wins in 11 matches.

Probable teams:

AS Roma: 32-Doni; 77-Marco Cassetti, 21-Matteo Ferrari, 5-Philippe Mexes, 2-Christian Panucci; 16-Daniele De Rossi, 13-Cristian Chivu; 11-Rodrigo Taddei, 20-Simone Perrotta, 30-Mancini; 10-Francesco Totti

Manchester United: 1-Edwin Van der Sar; 6-Wes Brown, 5-Rio Ferdinand, 22-John O'Shea, 4-Gabriel Heinze; 7-Cristiano Ronaldo, 11-Ryan Giggs, 16-Michael Carrick, 18-Paul Scholes, 8-Wayne Rooney; 13-Ji-Sung Park

Del Horno eyes Blues upset

Former Chelsea defender Asier Del Horno is confident Valencia can knock Jose Mourinho's men out of the UEFA Champions League. Chelsea lock horns with Valencia in the quarter-finals on Wednesday with the Spaniards travelling to West London for the first leg.

Del Horno, who quit Chelsea for Valencia, last summer believes the Blues are not as strong as they were because of the new formation they use. "Chelsea this season are not as well-balanced as they were," Del Horno told The Sun. "Using the diamond system in midfield and the two in attack does not allow them to play such a flowing game and means they can't impose themselves. "I believe they have fallen behind Manchester United. They can't hurt us if they don't have the ball and we can't waste the opportunities we get. "If we get a draw at Stamford Bridge, then we can beat them in the return in the Mestalla.

"The keys to beating Chelsea are we must be very serious defensively, we must not lose concentration or make any defensive mistakes." The Spanish international insists he bears no grudge against Chelsea for selling him after just one season at Stamford Bridge.

"I bear no grudge or any resentment that they decided to get rid of me. I intend to play well so Chelsea will see the best of me," added Del Horno. "I hope the Chelsea fans will say 'look at Asier he is a good player.' I also think I was justified in leaving for a team as strong as Valencia.

"Perhaps, because they are not doing so well in the Premiership, Chelsea will be doubly dangerous. "But when they have been without Terry and Carvalho they have suffered at the back. "It is good they are the favourites because Inter Milan were when they played us in the last round and we got through that."

Didn't watch but heard that Man U was dominated by Roma?

And normally, teams that lose at this stage of the competition do not win the cup eventually. I always make comparisons with the '99 campaign and that quarter-final demolition of Inter is the stuff of champions. Not this one though.

Paul Scholes never learns his lesson, still tackling like an amateur...so many years liao still lydat.

SIGHZ!!

Well, they were playing away, reduce to 10 men after only 33 mins... I wouldn't say bad since it was an away match and they got the away goal they needed...

Compare to chelsea, they drew at home and given an away goal to Valencia... Tho both are still very much in it, its better to play the 2nd leg at home, at least you know what you need to do now...
