CHARLTON REJECT £18m BENT BID

Charlton are reported to have rejected a head-spinning £18m bid for Darren Bent from West Ham. According to Sky Sports News, the offer was rejected at a Charlton board meeting on Tuesday morning.

West Ham are believed to have made three separate bids for the striker since former Addicks boss Alan Curbishley took charge at Upton Park. Bent scored 20 goals last season but has been out of action since December after suffering an ankle injury during the win over Aston Villa.

Although Alan Pardew admitted in early January that the injury had prompted thoughts of selling Bent, the club have repeatedly insisted in recent weeks that the player would not be sold.

"Darren isn't going anywhere," vowed chairman Richard Murray on Monday. "We've seen another batch of press speculation over the weekend, and the club has been inundated with journalists wanting to know how much we want and where he is going.

"Well, let's make this nice and simple - he's not going anywhere."

Just how much do Charlton believe Darren Bent is worth? The Addicks have reportedly rejected an improved offer from West Ham for Bent worth £18m. It's a tough call deciding who is the more bonkers - West Ham for bidding £18m or Charlton for rejecting it. Laughing

Just how many strikers are West Ham gonna buy?
I mean, right now they're just off form. All u need is a good motivator.

Look at the strikers they have: Dean Ashton, Carlton Cole, Marlon Harewood, Carlos Tevez, Teddy Sheringham, Bobby Zamora.

I think Curbs is really losing his touch.

Cheers.

BENT WILL LEAVE CHARLTON. JUST NOT NOW OR TO WEST HAM

Confusion still reigns around West Ham's supposed £18m bid for Darren Bent.

Half of Fleet Street believes that the Hammers did indeed register an improved bid for the Charlton striker on Tuesday. The other half regards those reports as irrelevant as it is clear that the Addicks will refuse to sell their best striker to their relegation rivals as that would effectively admit they are doomed to relegation.

However, it has emerged that Bent has been told he can leave Charlton in the summer, even if they avoid the drop.
