CHELSEA skipper John Terry won £87,500 at roulette by betting on his shirt NUMBER.
The England captain staked £2,500 on number 26 also his age while visiting an exclusive London casino with team-mates.

The defender given the shirt number when he first made the Blues squad was stunned when the ball dropped into 26 at odds of 35-1.

A source said: John was at the roulette wheel over an hour and spent a good five figures.

Frank Lampard was on the next table. When Terry won he was laughing and slapping the backs of the other players.

He was winding them up because they lost money but he paid for the drinks.

Terry well known for his love of a flutter was out with pals Lampard, Ashley Cole, Wayne Bridge and Shaun Wright-Phillips at the Colony Club, off Londons Park Lane.

Right, but even these so called professionals can't help them very much if they continue to indulge in such gambling activities... We have seen many before him going broke after making millions or hundreds of millions during their short sporting careers but still ended up in a sad way cos of their indulgence in gambling, alcohol or women...

Just to name a few, George Best, Paul Merson, Paul Gascoigne, Neil Webb... These are just some of the more famous ones, there are even more that we are not familiar with. Even Mike Tyson who made more than all 4 combine... Around $300 millions or more during his career, ended up bankrupt and having to act for a Wrestling Entertainment match to make ends meet and pay his bankruptcy...

So don't think for one minute that it can't happen to any of todays players too cos gambling is probably the worst among it.

Anyway, footballers are not really rich if you consider other sports like golf, baseball, basketball, boxing... And Terry is not even consider rich in football's rich list... So if he don't know how to make money outside of football... He better be careful... or he could really end up as a postman of something earning $300 pounds a month... Neutral

Terry out for Chelsea 25/12/06

Chelsea captain John Terry will miss a fourth consecutive match with his back injury when Reading visit Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

Manager Jose Mourinho had hoped Terry would be ready but also admitted he may be out for another two to three weeks.

Carlo Cudicini also misses out with a thigh injury, meaning Hilario should continue in goal.

Terry has missed the last four matches with the problem and Mourinho insisted initial predictions that the defender would be out for two weeks were optimistic.

Speaking after the 2-2 draw with Reading, he said: "I've no idea when John Terry will be back.

"I want John to be back at soon as possible. The medical department will have to make a decision soon.

"The medical department have said surgery might be a possibility. I want them to make a quick decision.

I don't know how long he will be out for - three days, three weeks or three months, I don't know."

TERRY SEEKS SPECIALIST TREATMENT

John Terry will see a specialist in France to ascertain the seriousness of his back injury.

The England captain has missed Chelsea's last four games with the problem. Initially Chelsea believed the problem was not serious, but the Mirror reports on Wednesday that Terry will fly to Bordeaux to have exploratory surgery on the disc problem in his lower back. This procedure will decide whether a further operation is needed.

If not then Terry could return within a couple of weeks, but if further surgery is required then he could be on the sidelines for six weeks or more.

This would mean Terry would not only miss a vital Premiership games (including a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool) but he could also be out for Chelsea's Champions League second round clash against FC Porto.

Jose Mourinho's side have missed their captain culminating in Michael Essien's comical own goal that handed Reading a share of the points on Boxing Day.

If Terry is out for a long period then Mourinho may adjust his transfer plans and buy another centre back in the transfer window, with Khalid Boularouz and Ricardo Carvalho their only other central defenders.

Chelsea and England captain John Terry has undergone surgery in France on his back injury.

A club statement read: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm that today club captain John Terry underwent successful surgery following his back injury.

"The operation took place in France following consultation between the Chelsea medical department and a leading neurosurgical specialist.

"The operation to remove a sequestrated lumbar intervertebral disc was successful and everyone at the club wishes John a speedy and full recovery."

It is unclear how much time the Chelsea skipper will need to recover from the operation, but it is understood it should be weeks rather than months of rehabilitation.

That would be welcome news for manager Jose Mourinho, who has made no secret of his desire to get the England defender back in action as soon as possible. It also remains to be seen if the defender will be fit to lead his country in their first international of 2007, against Spain at Old Trafford on February 7.

Manchester City manager Stuart Pearce has, meanwhile, rejected reports Chelsea have lined up an £18million bid for their England defender Micah Richards.

The smart money is on Terry being out of action for around a month.

Top doc Phil Sheard, who reckons the Blues chose surgery to speed along the defenders recovery, revealed: A couple of weeks is the most optimistic.

Realistically, you are looking at four to six weeks before he will be back.

The consultant orthopaedic spinal surgeon added: In most cases, these injuries will get better by themselves. But we frequently do operations so we can get people back quickly and I think thats what happened here.

The England skipper, 26, had keyhole surgery to remove a sequestrated lumbar intervertebral disc in a two-hour procedure in Bordeaux. The op, by neurosurgical specialist Dr Jean Destandau, involved JT having a disc removed from his back, shaved and then replaced.

Conventional surgery would have seen him out for six to eight weeks but the revolutionary technique used means he can begin his recovery by targeting a return in time for the Blues crunch Premiership trip to Liverpool on January 20.

That relatively positive news is unlikely to alter Mourinhos decision to pursue Manchester City defender Micah Richards. Terry should begin physio treatment at the start of next week but the delicate nature of the problem means he cannot be rushed back.
