Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia knows Liverpool will be "looking for revenge" when Arsene Wenger takes his much-changed side to Anfield for Tuesday night's Carling Cup quarter-final.

The Spaniard, 29, is likely to captain the Gunners again as Wenger opts to give several of his fringe and young players another chance to impress.

Almunia was, though, part of the side which inflicted a comprehensive 3-0 Barclays Premiership defeat on the Reds at the Emirates Stadium in November, standing in for the ill Jens Lehmann.

Since then Rafael Benitez's men have found their form, and are currently above the Gunners in the league table.

Almunia believes the Merseysiders will be out to prove a point - even if Arsenal are unlikely to be at full strength.

"It will certainly be more difficult at Anfield," said the Spaniard.

"Liverpool have just had a big defeat to us, so I am sure they will be looking for revenge.

"It is the same as the Everton game in the last round, though, because everyone thought we were too young to win there.

"We might win, or we might lose - but one thing I am sure of is that we will cause them problems.

"We will give 100%, and make it very difficult."

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE KIDDING?

RAFAEL BENITEZ has turned the heat on Arsenal by ridiculing their fabled youth policy.

The Gunners visit Liverpool in the Carling Cup quarter-final tonight with manager Arsene Wenger promising to continue his policy of blooding young players in the competition. But his counterpart at Anfield is sceptical of the Arsenal reputation for producing top quality youngsters, because he believes they have simply adopted Chelsea's policy of buying success.

And Benitez also admitted that he was worried about the youth system in English football, which he says is stifling the development of talent in the Premiership. In what was a clear sideswipe at the Gunners, Benitez said: "You can talk about Arsenal's famous youth policy, but really it depends what you mean by the youth policy of Arsenal.

"If you mean you're spending an awful lot of money on topclass players, then for me it isn't difficult to have a good youth policy. "Arsenal say they are giving young players a chance in this competition, but if you pay £8million for Walcott then you have to play him some time. "If you have the money then you can buy top players, it is as simple as that.

"We have not had the money here at Liverpool, so we know there is a big difference with Arsenal, who can pay millions for Denilson and also spend big on Walcott and Diaby. "We are trying to do the same things on a lot less money, so we have to work twice as hard.

"We have monitored Denilson, Walcott and Diaby but we haven't been able to compete with the big money other clubs are spending on them. That's why I'm happy with how the scouting department are doing with not as much money."

Liverpool will use tonight's game to bring on some more of their own youngsters, with the Spanish boss happy that he now has some promising kids of his own coming through.

Rafa: The kids could get us

RAFA BENITEZ will tonight risk Carling Cup humiliation by playing his Liverpool big guns against the wonderkids of Arsenal. Arsene Wengers teen sensations already have the scalp of a full-strength Everton side at Goodison Park in the cup this term. And the Gunners boss is ready to hand the likes of Theo Walcott, Alexandre Song and Denilson the chance to dump Liverpool out of the quarter-finals.

Kop boss Benitez admits his own youngsters are not in the same league so has no option to but to field his first team. Benitez said: In some ways it was a pity we were drawn against Arsenal because how many youngsters we play depends on the standard of the opposition. So Ill be selecting an experienced team because they are good and we need to be careful.

Liverpool were turned over 3-0 at the Emirates last month in the Premiership with a strong side that included the likes of skipper Steven Gerrard and midfield star Xabi Alonso. The Reds will be keen for revenge and are currently on a good run unbeaten in the league since that Arsenal defeat with 11 goals in their last three Premiership games.

They are re-investing in a lot of young players. And the quality of these players is really good. Benitez has already lifted the Champions League trophy and FA Cup during his two years as Anfield chief.

And with a place in the last four within Liverpools grasp, he insists that the Carling Cup is a priority this term. He admitted: We want to win every competition, whether it is the Carling Cup, FA Cup or Champions League but this could be one of our trophies.

We know Arsenal are a very good team who play good football. It will be a tough game for sure but we are playing well and I have confidence.
