used SG Premiership wrap Manchester United surged in to a nine point lead at the top of the Premiership with a resounding 3-1 victory over neighbours Manchester City. Goals from attacking trio Wayne Rooney, Christiano Ronaldo and Louis Saha won United the points. Hatem Trabelsi hit a consolation for City. Cristiano Ronaldo polished off City with a late goal.Steven Gerrard missed a penalty for Liverpool but managed to score from the rebound against Fulham at Anfield. Jamie Carragher scored a rare goal and Luis Garcia made sure of the win with a fine header for the third. Mark Gonazalez rounded off a confortable win with a late fourth. Middlesbrough and Wigan shared the points at the Riverside. Henri Camara opened the scoring for Wigan with a first-half penalty after Emanuel Pogatetz's foul on Paul Scharner. Yakubu and Mark Viduka started up front for the home side and it was the Nigerian striker who scored to claw back a point for Gareth Southgate's team. Portsmouth scored two outstanding goals to see off Everton at Fratton Park. Matthew Taylor followed up his brace last week with a 45 yard effort that flew past Tim Howard. Kanu then volleyed in Gary O'Neil's cross with his right foot to score his ninth goal of the season. Tottenham piled on the misery for bottom club Charlton by administering a thrashing at White Hart Lane. In-form Dimitar Berbatov hit a brace for Martin Jol's men and Jermaine Defoe, Steed Malbranque and Teemu Tainio weighed in with a goal each. Michael Dawson scored an own goal. Obafemi Martins scored twice for Newcastle against Blackburn. He hit one in each half with Steven Taylor adding another from close range. Stephane Henchoz was controversially shown a straight red card after fouling Martins in the first half. Morten Gamst Pedersen pulled one back to put Rovers back in contention but they add to his effort. Watford and Reading played out an uninspiring goalless draw at Vicarage Road. Ashley Young and Hameur Bouazza both went close for the home side with Bouazza missing Watford's best chance when he lobbed Reading keeper Marcus Hahnemann but hit his effort over the bar.
