West Ham move for Wright-Phillips

West Ham have made an approach to buy Chelsea's out-of-favour winger Shaun Wright-Phillips, and are thought to be willing to pay £10m.

"There has been interest from West Ham and they have officially approached us," Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon said on Friday.

"We're not looking to sell our players but if we get an offer we'll have to look at it on a serious basis."

Chelsea bought Wright-Phillips, 25, for £21m from Manchester City in July 2005.

But the England international has made only 12 league starts for Jose Mourinho's side since his arrival at Stamford Bridge, although he has come off the bench on 23 occasions.

The stepson of ex-England striker Ian Wright is yet to score a goal for the Premiership champions.

West Ham will have money to spend in the January transfer window following the takeover of the club by Icelanders Eggert Magnusson and Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson.

Even if he goes, his salary won't go down... only his transfer fee will cos if it does, then he can refuse to go and stay at chelsea to collect his big pay cheque every week.

Remember Duff, his salary remain the same for this next 2 years at Newcastle cos chelsea is still paying part of his weekly salary at Newcastle to make up the difference what he was getting when he was with them...

Pearce joins queue to sign Wright-Phillips

Stuart Pearce has admitted he would be interested in bringing Shaun Wright-Phillips back to Manchester City.

The England winger left the Blues for Chelsea in a club record £21million deal 16 months ago but has failed to establish himself at Stamford Bridge.

Wright-Phillips did not even make the bench for Sunday's 1-1 draw with Manchester United and last week, Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon dropped the first hint the Premiership champions would be interested in letting the 25-year-old leave after revealing West Ham had inquired about him.

And Pearce has now confirmed if Chelsea give the green light for Wright-Phillips' departure, he intends to be in the queue to get him.

'If a price was set and Chelsea were prepared to sell him, just think what a big lift it would give everyone here for Shaun to walk back through the door,' said Pearce.

'The question is whether Chelsea would want to sell him, after that it is something for our board to decide.'

In all other aspects though, the deal would be perfect given the admiration City fans still hold for Wright-Phillips, the first member of the Blues academy to make it into the England fold.

'He is a very level-headed lad. He is the same kid he was when he first broke into the Manchester City team some years ago.'
