Silva cleared to face Real Madrid

Valencia forward David Silva has been cleared to play against Real Madrid on Sunday after the Spanish Football Federations appeals committee overturned his one-match ban.

The Spain international was shown a direct red card in the 17th minute of his sides 3-0 defeat at Sevilla last weekend, after catching Dani Alves in the face with his arm.

The red card was reduced to a yellow, but although he had already earned a yellow card in the fourth minute of the same game, his suspension has been lifted.

The news will be a boost to Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores who has mounting injury problems in his forward line.

David Villa is struggling with a thigh strain collected in the 2-0 win over Olympiakos in the Champions League on Wednesday, but is reportedly keen to play against his medical staffs recommendations.

On Friday morning, strikers Fernando Morientes and Francesco Tavano both left training early with a thigh strain and an ankle injury respectively, and are doubts for Sunday.

Valencia are suffering an epidemic of injuries and are already without players such as Edu, Carlos Marchena, David Albelda, Emiliano Moretti, Jaime Gavilan, and Asier del Horno. Valencia are eighth in the Premera Division. Real are third.

Helguera a doubt for Real Madrid

Defender Ivan Helguera missed training with Real Madrid on Saturday and is a serious doubt for the vital La Liga match against Valencia on Sunday.

Central defender Helguera picked up a knock in the UEFA Champions League clash with Lyon in midweek and is struggling for fitness.

In better news for Madrid, centre half Fabio Cannavaro, striker Antonio Cassano and midfield general Emerson are all ready to play.

Los Merengues may also be boosted by the return of Ronaldo, who has reportedly been impressive in his return to training this week.

Coach Fabio Capello will assess the Brazilians fitness ahead of the trip and decide whether to include him in the party travelling to the Mestalla.
