Cost of watching football on TV likely to increase again
next season.
Quotes from The New Paper
"The Business Times reported yesterday that cable TV provider
Starhub and rivals Singtel were poised to enter a bidding war for
the television rights to the English Premier league (EPL) for the
next three seasons, from 2007 until 2009."
A Macquarie Research analyst estimated that the winning bid could
be about $150 million, more than double the price Starhub is said
to have paid ESPN Starsports, who have had the exclusive rights to
the EPL for the last three season (2004- 2006).
It is almost inevitable that some of the extra costs will be passed
on to the consumers
Jeannie Ong, Starhub's head of corporate communications told the
Business times:
"This upcoming auction process will indoubtedbly end in higher
prices"
