An air of resignation is currently enveloping struggling Wigan
Athletic, according to Austrian international Paul Scharner.
The Latics are currently on a horrendous run of form and a seven
game losing streak has seen them slip to within two points of the
relegation zone.
Wigan's struggles are in stark contrast to their superb debut
season in the top flight last year, and manager Paul Jewell will
need his squad to display all their character if they are to pull
clear of trouble.
However, Scharner has now admitted that spirits are low at The
Latics as a sense of pessimism pervades the squad.
"You can feel the mood throughout the club that we are going to be
relegated," said Scharner in The Sun.
One player looking to jump ship is Lee McCulloch, as the Scottish
forward has had a transfer request rejected after seeing a bid from
Rangers turned down by the Premiership club.
Now Latics left-back Leighton Baines has admitted he can understand
why McCulloch is determined to leave The JJB Stadium and join
Walter Smith at Ibrox.
"Rangers are a massive club," stated Baines. "It would be a boyhood
dream for Lee if he went."
