Chris Kirkland insists there is no panic in Wigan's dressing
room, despite a run of late which has seen them drop down the
Premiership table in an alarming fashion.
Wigan entertain Everton on Sunday just three points off the
relegation zone and having slumped to seven consecutive defeats,
Kirkland admits the rot has to be curtailed before too long.
Kirkland, who joined Wigan in the summer from Liverpool, has
already experienced relegation in his career having gone down with
Coventry in 2001 and it is a disappointment he is not eager to
repeat.
Of the opinion that Wigan's performances of late have been better
than their results suggest, Kirkland is confident they will begin
to pick up points soon.
"It has been a tough time lately," said Kirkland.
"It's as bad a run as I've experienced and, when you look at the
table it's not pretty, but at this point I'm not worried about
relegation.
"Everyone in the dressing room is confident we have the players and
that we can get out of trouble. If we play to our ability and we
believe in ourselves then we will be okay.
"All the lads here will give everything they have got for the club.
We're up for the fight.
"We have been playing better than some of our results suggest, but
this is a results business.
"We would all rather put in a bad performance and get three points
than play well and get nothing out of the game.
"We know we need to get some points, and we showed we can do that
when we went five games unbeaten earlier this season."
