It's better to have some dirty rims than having all the brake dust trapped inside and fouling up your brakes though. You guys mightn't have seen how dirty cars elsewhere get when driving through snow. Wink

Oh, brake linings are made from abestos, and long-term exposure to that is hazardous. By that I mean having a regular faceful of it from opening the clutch housing or brake drums. Razz

wah... that means everytime i service brakes for a car, that's equivalent to what... minus how many days of my lifespan ah? Razz

one of my colleagues suggested to me, to apply wax/polish your rims. in that way not only yr rims will SHINE, the dust won't stick that much to the rims as well. dunno can apply to my steel rims or not :p

abestos has been banned in brake pads long time ago, that's why if you compare today's brake pads to the ones in the past, today's ones are nosier and produce more brake squealing sound due to the different metal compound found inside it. Saab was the first manufacturer to produce abestos-free brake pads, way back in 1983 Wink

yup...but still when some asshole in the workshop when servicing brakes decides to use the air gun to blow away the brake dust in the calipers....u'll see everyone else running away Laughing

most jap cars still using abestos..so maybe the abestos pads doesn’t produce more dust than the non-abestos pad…yes abestos is not healthy to breath in..even some false ceiling and temporary walls are using abestos so becareful..

I realised brake dust accumulates very fast on my rims too (I'm driving a M3). It only happened to my rear wheels. The service technican told me that it was due to my driving that caused the brake dust to build up. Any truth to this?

huh only rear wheels? that's new. i'd say that the rear pads are different from the front.... OR the brake bias is more to the rear, which is highly not possible Laughing

whether you are a hardcore-style type, always like to accelerate then brake hard.... or very casual and smooth, braking gently type... most of the brake dust will accumulate on the front wheels.... if not all 4 wheels are more or less the same... on a normal road car.

so maybe ya using aftermarket pads in front and stock pads on the rear? just my guess.

If mercedes benz and bmw are using brake pads tat churn out tons of brake dusts, then it should be good lor.

I think there are a lot of variables that determine how much brake dust a car produces..there are variables like how powerful are the brakes, what's the driving habit of the driver and what brake pads he/she is using on his car..haha..but i have seen some drivers so lazy to clean their cars that the alloy wheels are totally black..lol..now i know where did the idea for gun-metal coloured alloy wheels come from......
