Singapores Budget Terminal (BT) will be celebrating its first
birthday on 26 March 2007, with fun-filled activities for both
passengers and public, organised by the CAAS from 19 to 25 March
2007 at BT.
BT Trivia:
Asia first LCC terminal built
Cost S$45 million to build
Size of three football fields
Unsurprising contested winning name from among 12,000 other
entries
Targeted 5 million passengers per year but expecting an initial
capacity of 2.7 million passengers.
Landing and parking charges remains the same but security and
passenger charges somewhat 50% cheaper than T1 & T2
With only TR & 5J operating there
According to a recent speech the Minister of Transport reported
that BT handles about 130,000 passengers per month. Hence an
estimated of 1.56 million passengers per annum, which is nearly 60%
of passenger volume as compared to the initial targeted
figure.
Since LCC now consist of almost 15% of Changi's air traffic, there
will probably be continual growth of LCC within the region. Some
thoughts:
Will more airlines choose to operate from BT?
Will BT continue to expand and meet passenger volume target or
eventually turn into white elephant?
If airlines from T1 choose to operate from BT or T2, then is T3
necessary?
