I dont know ... when I pray, I suddenly feel at peace with the world ..
it's true that, SOMETIMES, our circumstances don't change. however, our mentality will change the way we view our circumstances.
other times, our circumstances DO change.
I dont often share this with people, but seeing as you dont know me, and seeing as it is relevant, I'll share something with you.
I was supposed to be disabled. The doctors were advising my mom to abort me.
My Dad is a pastor. My mom and dad prayed about it, as well as the rest of the church.
a few months before I was born, the doctor announced that I wasn't disabled anymore... They say that this only happens to one person outta a thousand.
coincedence? maybe, but I dont think so ..

I believe that prayer CAN change things ...
I don't know, sometimes, life gets too hard to bear.
We need to turn to someone else, right?
People choose who they want to turn to.
Some people choose to turn to God. And I wanna be one of them =).

Praying induces a psychological effect upon oneself, dun think it as a miraculous effect. Science people...science.

Worrying excessively is not only useless but also harmful. Praying makes you stop worrying but focus on looking at things you can see potential for changing.

I'm not suggesting that they didnt pray hard enough. I believe that, sometimes, we are in the circumstances that we are in because God wants to use that circumstance to show us something. Perhaps, that is the case with some of them.
And I don't believe that science can explain everything. After all, our knowledge is limited... Many of the 'facts' that we learn from textbooks are theories as opposed to solid truth...
But of course, your beliefs are your beliefs, and I'll respect that, just as I hope that you'll respect my beliefs.

prayer can change things?

of course it can, it can give few seconds of relief to yourself so that you feel better.

lets give an example --> "i pray that my family will be safe from accident"

you feel better after praying... but the fact is that your family will not have a protection circle around them after your prayer.

Instead of praying, what will increases their chances of safety. you talk to your child, and you tell him what is safe to do and what is not safe. you teach him knowledge so that he makes right decision. Knowledge and real work, not praying, will increase his chances of safety.

If you are mature and realistic enough you will know that praying does not really change the situation. When that happens, you will then have the awareness to try to solve whatever concerns you have head on.

This is real work, involves thinking and effort that is why people subconsciouly avoid facing their problems and turn to praying. It uses less brain cell if all u have to do is routine acts of offering and acts of devotions.

But there is no such thing (to me) as solid truth from religion and the SOME of the facts we learnt are in-fact provable

religion has many elements to it.

some of parts of religion teaching contains to maintain peace with others.

to respect others.

these parts are commendable are right.

Therefore, to say that religion is wrong wholly , if i ever say like this before, is wrong.

When you say that a religion is useless, you are also saying that certain parts of religion which are teaching peace and harmony is wrong. This is incorrect to say that religion is wrong as a whole.

Let me help to clarify for all atheists and scientist who says that religion is not helpful or what.

what we are saying is actually, certain parts of religion , like praying and some of it supertitious rules and ceremony is inefficient and does not really help.

because religion is also about doing ritual and praying and some has wrong beliefs about what causes what, we scientists and atheist are talking about these parts in saying that forget these things.

of course there are different religion and some are more supertitious types.

strictly speaking, buddhism is not a religion. buddhism is about teachings of way of life. i find buddhism useful but i think their concepts of karma and reincarnation is wrong to a large degree for karma and totally for reborn.

just be practical and do real things.

The reality of life can be summarized in 2 words.

Shit Happens.

There is no magic man up in the sky controlling our destiny.

I find it hilarious then when there's a tsunami or a terrorist attack, the religious go "it's God's plan", or "God is testing us", or "God is punishing us".

The religious then go on blabbering about "free will" to explain the problem of evil and are too intellectually weak to understand that free will is inconsistent with an all powerful, all knowing and all good god.

Good things happen to good people. Good things also happen to bad people. Bad things happen to good people. Bad things happen to bad people. There's no reason why. When you win the lottery, there's no supernatural being rewarding you any more than there's a supernatural being punishing you if you get robbed of your money immediately afterwards.
