The Frenchman was roundly criticised after suffering a
break-down of sorts in the tumultous 2-2 draw at Birmingham last
term and his leadership style subsequently questioned by fans and
neutrals alike, but Wenger insists that he is standing by his
man.
"If he plays, he will be captain," said Wenger during Friday

"If he does not play, it will be somebody else. But William will be
the club captain, yes."
Gallas, 30, succeeded Thierry Henry as Arsenal captain, in what was

the fans.
Gallas, himself, has admitted that he has made some mistakes along
the way, but insists that he has learned from them and generally
has been making all the right noises during pre-season about
becoming a better leader going forward.
