Richards rubbishes Arsenal talk
Micah Richards has rubbished reports which suggested he was keen on
making a move to Arsenal in the future.
Reports in the press on Tuesday quoted Richards as saying he wanted
to secure a move to his boyhood club at some stage in his
career.
The powerful defender has insisted his comments had been dredged up
from the past and taken wildly out of context and he stressed that
he was close to signing a new deal with Manchester City.
Its ridiculous, Richards told the clubs official website. This
was in a magazine I spoke to once, a long time ago, its very old
stuff that came from a silly question like; Ive heard youre an
Arsenal fan, would you like to play for them?
Ive said when I was younger that Id like to play for Arsenal
one day and that was it. Now theyre making a big thing about
it.
Richards has been holding talks with the club for some time and is
expecting an announcement to be made in the near future.
He added: Im just about to sign a new Manchester City contract
and last week I said hopefully Ill be captain one day.
Im in final talks and hopefully well have something signed very,
very soon. Its just down to the finer details.
Richards has stressed that there will be no buy-out clause inserted
in his contract.
But this talk of a buy-out clause is just rubbish as well, totally
rubbish. I dont know whos put that in the papers. It just seems
like theres people just trying to twist things, he stated.
Its certainly not the case that I want to move anywhere. Im
looking for a new house in Manchester, so why would I want to move
anywhere now?
Im enjoying my football week in, week out and Im playing for
England, so what more could I want at the moment?
