Jens Lehmann decided to stay at
Arsenal because he believes they can win the Champions League next
season.
Late last week, the German keeper sealed a new one-year deal at
Emirates Stadium. He revealed that he had the opportunity to return
home but decided to stay with Arsène Wengers side because he felt
they could scoop the Continents top competition.
Europe is important to me, he told Arsenal.com. I said before
there are clubs in Germany who might qualify for the Champions
League but you can't win it with them.
You have to have at least the prospect of being involved in a big
decision at the end of next year. And we nearly were there
before.
We are among the teams who can win it along with the other English
teams, Barcelona, Real Madrid might be stronger next year, AC Milan
we have to see and Inter Milan are a good prospect as well. I think
they are the teams who can actually win it.
Of course, Lehmanns regular footballing diet next season will be
the Premiership. At times he has been critical of the refereeing
style in this country however, after four years, he believes both
parties have learned to understand each other.
I am used to English football, he said. I had to adapt to the
English style and refs had to adapt to me. And this season I have
got on with it quite well.
"I am not a guy who kisses his badges, I played for four clubs. I
appreciated every club and you can see that I am staying so of
course it suits me here.
