POLICE spokesman Liu Xiangling said that from January to March this
year, there were four reports of serious hurt and 14 cases of
rioting at nightspots.
Its reported that earlier this month that there were 57 cases of
reported nightspot brawls last year - about one fight a week.
In 2004, there were 55 such fights, with cases rising to 64 the
next year.
Mr Chua's death is just one in a series of violent incidents at
Clarke Quay.
Here are some fights which took place at Clarke Quay:
On 17Apr 2003, Mohamad Sadik Senin, 19, died as a result of a clash
with the rival Ubi Boys gang outside Jams The Club.
On 20 May 2000, Mr Zulkifly Mahmud, 21, was at Daddy J's Pub when
he was stabbed to death by 10 men.
On 30 Dec 1995, 15 young women, aged 18 to 25 years, were involved
in a fight there.
They were all hauled to court.
