Having just moved here to Singapore, let me give you the benefit
of my 10+ years experience of living in Hong Kong. I always
got the feeling that HK girls were extremely unfriendly and/or
anti-social. I once asked my Chinese/Canadian friend what he
thought was the reason. He reckons they are taught to actively
avoid eye-contact with anyone they do not know, regardless of race.
You may have seen the long-distance glance that turns into a
transparent gaze when the said lady is 10 metres away from you.
Once the lady concerned is known to you, and you become included in
her social circle, she becomes very passionate and open with you,
transforming from the aloof HK "Princess" into a very decent and
caring friend.
I think the same can probably be said of females in most
jurisdictions. The initial defensive posture soon disappears when
she feels safe and is sure of who you are and what your intentions
are.
As for ladies from Taiwan? I've never been there, but my
impression of Taiwanese ladies living in HK is that they are often
more open initially, possible due to the fact that they are mainly
business women and as suh would be more confident and less
concerned about their own security.
