tried couchsurfing in new zealand but not airbnb. just a word of
advice- it's generally safe but only book/surf those who have a lot
of positive reviews and be open minded.
couchsurfing is an experience, not just a free bed. be open to
sharing with others and offering stuff in return e.g. cooking your
host a meal etc.
