The markets in Singapore
just keeps getting better and better with their wide selection of
vendors. If you’re looking for something cool to do this month, you
can look forward to getting your hands on some quirky fashion items
and handmade goods at these seven markets (or you could just head
down to grab some tasty grub too).
Get your cash ready and go
on a shopping bonanza on Baghdad Street. You can look forward to
seeing and buying street fashion items from a variety of vendors
like slim fit batik for men by Batique, jewelry from ZenRock
Accessories, handmade polymer clay from The Good Batch and Yolky
Chips’ salted egg potato chips.
Loewen Gardens' Farmers'
Market is back again, this time with a wide variety of fresh food,
coffee and wine. Expect vendors like OrganicHimalayaNepal, Papa’s
Grove, Cafthos by Clarine, Perk Coffee, The Meat Club, Batu Lesung
Spice Co., Salut-Lebanon, Bottles XO, Eso Tea and more. You can
also have coffee at The Pantry while you’re there.
Besides enjoying the urban
artworks, music performances and the hip hop block party, you can
also pick up some new skills at The Barter Workshop Market. As the
name suggests, instead of using money to pay, you're encouraged to
trade items like old textbooks, books, toys, alcoholic drinks, or
even a good conversation in exchange for learning skills like
silkscreening, live portraits, lino cut printing, or some local
farm produce (provided by Tanah).
Head over to Singapore’s
most popular rooftop at People’s Park Complex for the Lepark
Edition of YHFlea. If you’re in the midst of shopping for the
coming Chinese New Year, this collective flea market will see more
than 100 curated local brands and indie designers such as
BooksActually, oh!eaf, Visual Mass, Naked & Unbound and more,
across three different segments—the Brands Only Market, Car Boot
Sale and Flea Trade Zone—for you to go crazy over.
We've always known local
art market collective The Local People to organize some really hip,
cool local street markets. This time round, they're teaming up with
SIngapore Land Authority for a unique Duct Tape Party; an art
market taking place beneath the West Coast viaduct (so edgy!). You
expect to catch live music acts, eight different movie screenings
from last year’s Singapore Heritage Short Film Competition and a
public art installation that uses duct tape that you can
participate in. Keep yourself energized which sandwiches from the
Kerbside Gourmet (you need to have a go at their philly steak
sandwiches), juices lovingly made by The Juicy Way and handmade
coconut chips by Loco Nosh. You can also do some good while you're
at the market by bring some food items listed on their FB event
page for their donation drive for Food From the Heart.
Our favourite Weekend
Market curated by Togetherly and Field Vibes is happening at
Goodman Arts Center in conjunction with their open house. Make some
room in your shopping bag for a bunch of cool, curated handcrafted
items from Handmade Republic, barbecue nosh and refreshments to
guzzle down by Cafe Melba and more. Apart from the two-day market,
you can also check out in the open house’s exhibitions,
installations and live music performances (courtesy of MC SWTLKR,
Shellsuit, The Lost Hat and others) or take part in
workshops.
Rejoice, vintage and retro
lovers, because this is where you can find all of your favorite
items. The revamped Joo Chiat Police Station building, now Katong
Square, is holding a monthly retro market, organized by Vintage
Flea Market by The Retro Factory. You can expect to see vendors
selling Objets D'Art, vinyl records, gramophones, vintage jewelry
and arts and crafts goods like action figures and bicycle
figurines. One of the highlights are never-before-seen vintage
jewelry from the 1920s to 1970s, made from 925 sterling silver, and
most importantly, you are getting an exclusive peek at the never
seen before collection.
