Dear Forumers,
It is a NO NO to chant 变食真言at home. I know an
old monk who was very close to the late Master Hong Choon（宏船老法师).
He told me that never never
chant 变食真言mantra at home. He also advised
me not to listen to youtube or CD about this mantra at
home.
Reason being we are not monks or nuns, some ghosts can be
very fierce and they will insist that you do it everyday for
them. If not, they will create havoc in your house and refuse to
leave. This mantra can only be chanted in the temples. He said we
are lay buddhists, we do not know how to handle these ghosts.
Ghosts are like humans, some are good and some are bad.
Though some shifu say it is ok but what the old monk said make
sense to me.
切记！切记！Don't get yourself into unnecessary trouble.

At a dharma discussion, one man talked about 变食真言 which I came
to realise it's a mantra which can help the hungry ghosts/shades to
have food...
I did chanted this mantra before... but I didn't go and find out
more about it
what fascinated me was.... in the dharma discussion, the hungry
ghosts have different levels of suffering too... some can "eat" if
food is offered, some with heavier evil karma can only "eat" food
that is discarded... some even worse, which I have read before: 倒悬
any food the ghost touch will burn into ashes... even the tongue
can burn the food into ashes before he can taste it...
