Bone is a type of connective tissue because
1) it has a supportive and protective function comprising of the
skeletal system which protects internal organs.
2) the cells are spaced widely apart by ECM mineralised with Ca
salts
3) it is of mesenchymal origin'
Has osteoblasts and osteocytes in ECM secreted by the
osteoblasts. ECM mineralised with Ca salts.
Has periosteum
Compact or spongy
Bone marrow within hollow interior of bone
Compact bone: Arranged in 4 to 20 rings. Surround a central
Haversian canal. Canal lined by endosteum and contain an artery.
COmposed of osteons or Haversian systems. ECM produced by
osteoblasts. Periosteum has outer fibrous layer of collagen and
blood vessels.
Inner osteoprogenitor layer of pre osteoblasts and
osteclasts.
The periosteum attached to bone by Sharpey's
fibres(collagen)
Bone cells
1. Osteocytes
2. Osteoblasts
3. Osteoclasts
Osteoblasts stimulated by Vitamin D, increases Ca absorption by
gut.
Osteoclasts are multinucleated cells derived from monocytes and
macrophages.
