Hi. I'm quite confused about the requirements getting into a local university. I'm a going year 2 student in ngee ann poly, business process quality engineering course. I heard that if i did not get a pass in english o level, i cannot get into a local university even if my GPA had reached the requirement, is it true?? coz if it's true, i had to retake my english this year, so plz help ^^

no la.. GPA >3.5 is all that matters
but either NUS or NTU takes a 20% of your O level grades in consideration for entry

dun be surprised

some courses 3.3 at 90th percentile.. some was even 2.58

but tat's only a guide cos I heard of cases 3.7 still can't get into Biz (NUS 90th percentile at 3.50, NTU's at 3.60)

All poly dip holders will need do a english test before they start uni and if you fail that test, you will have to take an extra english module in your first year.

Halo.... I also from Ngee Ann and the went to NUS..

Firstly, do as well in ya poly as possible, if can try going for diploma with merit.

English at O level fail or pass does not matter. As long as D7 you would be safe (dont tell me you F9, if you F9 then you have to retake O level Eng). I have friends failing O level english also able to go into NUS.

Ya, it is true that before you enter NUS year 1, you need to take some sort of english test. If you perform well, you dont need to take any english modules. If not you have to take either 1 or 2 english modules.

Hope that helps.

yeap

English does not matter if you've done well in poly. Anyway being merit holder does not really matter in securing a place these days for e direct entry courses
