Collision near
Haig Road: 1 injured, 28-year-old man arrested
SINGAPORE: A 28-year-old man has been arrested following a
collision involving a traffic police patrol vehicle on Sunday (Jun
26), in which one person was injured.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to an
incident requiring ambulance assistance at the junction of Geylang
Road and Engku Aman Road at 8.56pm. One male driver in his 30s was
conveyed to Changi General Hospital as a result of the accident,
the SCDF said.
Police said investigations into the accident are
ongoing.
Photos posted by Facebook user Angeline Xie at 9.10pm show the
scene of the accident near Haig Road and the Geylang Serai Hari
Raya Bazaar, with the hood of the traffic police vehicle appearing
to have been smashed in.
A Channel NewsAsia viewer who declined to be named said he heard
a siren at about 8.50pm, and saw the patrol vehicle chasing a car.
Seconds later, he heard a loud bang and saw that the patrol vehicle
had collided with another BMW car. The collision, which took place
in front of a crowded bus stop, caused the patrol vehicle's airbag
to be activated, he said.
The eyewitness said an ambulance arrived soon after. The car the
patrol vehicle was chasing appeared to have fled the scene, he
added.
