IKEA issues
recall for safety gates
SINGAPORE: IKEA is urging customers who own the Patrull, Patrull
Fast or Patrull Klamma safety gates to return them to the store for
an immediate refund, it announced on Thursday (Jun 23).
These are the only safety gates sold by IKEA, the company
added.
The furniture retailer said that it has received reports that
the safety gates have opened unexpectedly, and children have fallen
down stairs, with some cases requiring medical attention.
No incidents have been reported in Singapore, IKEA said.
A third-party investigation later revealed that the gate's
locking mechanism was not reliable, posing a risk for young
children, despite approved tests to applicable standards.
"IKEA is not willing to risk children’s safety and therefore
urges all customers that have a Patrull safety gate to immediately
stop using it and to bring it back to any IKEA store for a full
refund," it said.
No proof of purchase is required, IKEA added.
