Singapore is
fifth-best city for female entrepreneurs: Study
SINGAPORE: The Republic has come in fifth in a ranking of best
cities for high performing women entrepreneurs, according to
findings by tech company Dell released on Thursday (Jun 23).
Singapore is the only Asian city in the top five, ranked behind
New York, the San Francisco Bay Area, London and Stockholm. Five
important categories of city characteristics were identified:
Capital; Technology; Talent; Culture; and Markets, and Singapore
performed in the top third of the 25 cities ranked for Talent,
Culture and Technology, the Dell Women Entrepreneur Cities Index
revealed.
Other Asia-Pacific cities in the ranking include Sydney (8),
Beijing (13), Hong Kong (14) and Taipei (15), according to the
findings.
The Index, which looks at a city’s ability to attract and
foster growth of women-owned firms, ranked 25 cities with the
highest potential women entrepreneurs. The index is intended to
provide insights for cities on how to improve conditions for such
businesses to thrive. The overall ranking took 70 indicators into
account, 44 of which had a gender-based component, Dell said.
“Singapore has established a robust ecosystem to support women
entrepreneurs with a strong focus on cultivating home-grown
entrepreneurship and promoting digitisation across all verticals,
said Dell’s vice president of APJ CSES marketing Margaret
Franco.
“Singapore is well positioned on a global landscape for
women-owned businesses to thrive and is an exceptional example to
Asia of the great contribution women bring to the economic growth
of a nation.”
