Halimah Yacob
confirms police report made over fake Facebook
account
SINGAPORE: Speaker of Parliament Halimah Yacob has confirmed
that she made a police report on Friday (Dec 18) over a fake
Facebook account, which attempted to use her name to scam people of
their money.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a community event on
Sunday, she said the account has been taken down.
Madam Halimah added that one of her existing Facebook pages now
has a mark to prove that it is authentic. She has contacted the
social media platform to get the mark for her second page as
well.
"I hope nobody has been duped and cheated of any money,” she
said. “I hope the police will look into it. I'm really worried that
with the use of Internet technology so frequently and widespread,
this could become a trap for people who don't know because people
may think I'm really in need of money or that I'm in trouble.”
“We just need to beware and be wary,” she added.
