I actually bought an iphone 4, 16GB in one of the stores in Sim
Lim back in 2009. And got cheated really bad. Up to this day I
cringe whenever I think about how stupid I was lol.
I went around asking store by
store which would offer be the best deal and I came to this store
at the 3rd or 4th level of Sim Lim Square. I decided to buy from
them as they were very friendly and very helpful at
first.
Being totally new to smartphones let alone Apple iPhone, I did
not know what 'jailbreak' was back then. I was told that I had to
pay $400 on top of the phone price for a lifetime service that
allows me to download any app I want without paying.
Of course I did not know
jailbreaking was illegal sinceI was paying a huge sum for it and
they told me they are authorised apple reseller, so I had no doubts
at all. Then they convinced me by saying they download this CCTV
surveillance app for free that by right would cost hundreds of
dollars on the appstore.
So i bought this so called
service and I have no idea how but the end bill cost $2,000++ for
an iPhone 4 16GB with the added service plus idk what shit... A few
days later, I found out I was scammed and I really wanted to report
to the police but I had no evidence supporting it. The receipt they
provided me did not have any description, just a list of prices,
and the total value of those prices, which is
$2000++....
I once went back there to fix my iPhone even after I learnt the
truth. The jailbreak they installed for me was a tethered or
untethered version, and I am not supposed to even let my battery go
flat, else the phone has to be rebooted from computer and
re-jailbreaked. And the situation that day was that my phone died,
I brought it to the exact same store to get it fixed from the
computer (after all I paid one bomb for the service, I should go
back there and pester them as often as I get some small trouble
right) They scolded me, and raised their voice at me, and then
showed annoyance at why I couldn't just keep my phone alive and had
to make them do this again. I was like wth...?!?!?
Anyway, I paid a hefty price for being naive, and obviously
didn't do research on my part. Most important lesson learnt: Never
shop at Sim Lim, and always check your receipt before leaving any
shop.
