SINGAPORE: The Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve was closed to the
public for a stretch on Saturday morning (Aug 15) due to a police
operation. The police said a 45-year-old man was arrested for
"immigration offences".
The police told Channel NewsAsia that it was notified at 5.10am
when the Coast Guard detected suspicious activities off the waters
of Sungei Buloh. "A search was conducted in the area and a
45-year-old man was arrested for immigration offences," they
added.
Operations were stood down at 12.15pm and investigations are
ongoing, the police said.
The National Parks Board (NParks) posted on Facebook at around
11.30am: "For public safety, Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is closed
today until further notice due to police operations. We are sorry
for any inconvenience caused."
At 12.45pm, NParks said the park was reopened. It said on Facebook:
"Thank you for your patience. Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve is now
open to visitors."
