The construction worker from India was just two months
away from starting a new life. He had plans to go home and get
married and open a fish farm.
But yesterday, Mr Rajesh Mahalingam, 29, was killed as
a black sedan crashed into a lorry he was in, injuring 10 of his
co-workers. The accident happened at the Pan-Island Expressway
(PIE) towards Tuas, before the Simei exit.
The remaining 10 people in the lorry and the car driver
and his female passenger were taken to Changi General Hospital
(CGH). A hospital spokesman said five of the people involved in the
accident were discharged yesterday evening.
Mr Rajesh’s younger brother, Mr Kalaiyarasan
Mahalingam, 24, said a mutual friend told him about his brother’s
death at about 8.45am yesterday when he was at work.
“I cried. I only have one sister and one brother. Just
that one brother, he is gone,” he said.
