LONDON: The London bus driver on trial for
careless driving which killed Singaporean student Tan Mingwei has
been found not guilty.
The prosecution said there was not enough evidence to convict
52-year-old bus driver Shahriar Firouzian and they would not seek
to take the trial further.
Blackfriars crown court has heard from the judge that there was
no realistic prospect of a conviction for Mr Firouzian, and a
verdict of not guilty has been formally entered by the judge.
The jury has been discharged.
Ms Tan was hit by a bus in Hampstead, North London, on 30
September 2010.
Mr Firouzian, who is from North London, denies causing death by
careless driving and he told the court that he thought he ran over
a bottle and then a fox, rather than hitting a person.
He also said that at the time he had hit Miss Tan, he had been
driving at only three kilometres per hour.
