STOMPer DemandBetter finds it unfair that the casino levy is
borne solely by Singaporeans and Permanent Residents (PRs), after
learning that both casinos in Singapore had been fined for failing
to enforce the levy on patrons.
According to an article in the Straits Times today, both Marina Bay
Sands and Resorts World Sentosa have been dealt penalties by the
Casino Regulatory Authority amounting to $385,000. The fine was
allowing for a total of 44 people to enter or remain on their
premises beyond the 24 hour period.
The STOMPer shared:
"Just read an article about the fine that MBS received.
"Why the difference between Singapore Citizens or PRs regarding the
levy and any of the foreign workers in Singapore?
"Foreign workers here have an equal likelihood of causing trouble,
generating crime, etc. as the locals and PRs do.
"The levy should be placed on anyone without a 'Visitor Pass',
which in itself is temporary. Singapore can also deport these
people in the event that they get into trouble with the law.
"I don't like the double standard."
