INCULCATING values in students will help Singaporeans face the
demands of the 21st century - and that is just what the education
ministry will focus on moving forward.
Minister for Education Heng Swee Kiat, made this comment to
reporters on Sunday after a brisk walk and aerobics session with
residents at the Community Sports festival @ North East.
Answering questions on education, Mr Heng stressed the
importance of developing 21st century competencies for
students.
At the centre of this is educating students about values, so
that Singaporeans as a whole will have 'a sense of responsibility,
resilience and care for the broader community', he said.
The newly-minted education minister had just returned to
Singapore after leading a delegation to Japan in end June to attend
an education seminar held by the Organisation for Economic
Cooperation and Development.
During the seminar, he spoke about Singapore's education system,
which he said was highly respected internationally.
