SINGAPORE : Community Chest (ComChest), the
fund-raising arm of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS),
wants to raise S$55.7 million in funds for its financial year
beginning April.
The amount is barely a 1 per cent increase from the
S$55.2 million it raised last year.
The group said it needed the money to fund 158
social service programmes run by 70 charities.
Abandoned children and those from poor families, as well as
troubled youth, continue to be the group's main beneficiaries, with
a funding budget of S$27.3 million for this year, or 49 per cent of
the total allocation.
The group has set aside S$12.7 million for the disabled, S$10.1
million for financially distressed homes, and S$5.6 million in aid
for the elderly.
It is also setting up its 38th service centre in Telok Blangah Way
as part of its efforts to make social service more accessible to
the needy.
