A PLUMBER who molested his Indonesian maid in 2009 was sentenced
to two years' jail and five strokes of the cane on Friday.
The 44-year-old man had admitted to moving his hand under the
24-year-old's clothing to outrage her modesty at his home in the
east of Singapore on Sept 30, 2009.
The court heard that he told the maid - who had worked for him
for about 1 1/2 years - to bring his dinner into his bedroom that
evening.
When she did so, he locked the door and grabbed her hands. She
tried to move away from him but he pushed her onto the floor and
molested her.
The victim was struggling throughout but could not break free.
She also tried to shout but the accused used his left hand to cover
her mouth.
After about a minute, he stopped when someone knocked on the
door. The victim took the opportunity to escape into the computer
room and locked herself inside. Another similar charge was taken
into consideration. He could have been jailed for up to two years
or fined or caned or received any combined punishment.
