THREE hundred and seventy-three Singaporeans were diagnosed with
the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) between January to October
this year, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Sunday.
Out of the 169 new cases, 60 per cent were at late-stage HIV
infection at the time of diagnosis. The majority, at 92 per cent,
are male.
Sexual transmission remains the main mode of HIV
transmission.
A detailed analysis of the remaining 204 cases will be available
after investigations are completed.
The figure of 373 is slightly lower than the 378 cases reported
during the same period last year.
The MOH said it expects the total number of notified HIV cases
for 2010 to be close to last year's total of 463 cases.
