A BANGLADESHI construction worker was sentenced to nine months'
jail and three strokes of the cane on Monday for molesting a
Filipino maid.
Yeanus Abdus Samed Majhi, 35, admitted to kissing the
25-year-old domestic worker on the left shoulder and squeezing her
right breast at Nanyang Crescent on Aug 26 last year.
The court heard that Yeanus was doing painting work with others
at the premises when the maid told him to do some touching up in
the master bedroom.
After he was done, the maid climbed up a ladder to check the
ceiling.
As she was coming down, she realised that the master bedroom
door was closed and Yeanus standing beside the ladder.
When she tried to leave, he blocked her path and tried to hug
her.
He ignored her order to stop and pushed her onto the bed, lay on
top of her and tried to kiss her.
She struggled and the kiss landed on her left shoulder. She
tried to push him but he was too strong for her. He also squeezed
her breast.
She managed to free herself and ran out of the bedroom after
saying that she would call the police and her boss.
Yeanus could have been jailed for up to two years or fined or
caned or received any of the combined punishments.
