Hi,

Recently I kissed a taxi at the traffic light. It was a very light kiss with no visible scratches or anything on the cab. But there was a previous black mark which was not caused by my car. The driver took my number down and was very nice. He said he will call me if got anything. I asked for his number but he did not want to give me saying he will call me. But after 3 days, I receive a call from my insurance company instead saying that the taxi is claiming my insurance. But the bang was so light that even his passengers could not even be bothered to get out of the taxi.

In such case, what can I do?

He told me we were blocking the traffic but it was at night and the junction had no cars. He said he will call me then I said okay. Throughout he sounded nice. Few days later which is today was from the insurance company already.

It was green light. I thought he was gonna move. I release my brake then I realize he still haven't move! It was my bad. But it was a really really minor one. There was almost or I don't even see a dent or scratch on his bumper. It's the SMRT older cab with the plastic bumper kind. Is the usual claim going to be hefty?

Actually its not my car also and the car owner who is my friend's mom is really really pissed. And at that point of time I was alone I didn't know what to do. I didn't tell my friend's mom until the insurance called up today because it wasn't noticeable and I thought she wouldn't find out. :x

I called up SMRT hotline they said I can settle with the driver privately, but the driver didn't call me and went straight to file a claim.

Would appreciate any kind of advise. Thanks!

Not sure i can help you . But first i need to know your age . Plus did your friend mother know you borrow the car plus has your friend mother make report to her insurance company. If yes how was it written in the report ?

Im 25. My friend's mother know I borrowed her car. But I didn't mention about the incident to her because I thought the taxi driver thought it was okay. I seriously didn't know he will call the insurance company etc because there was no noticeable damage on his taxi. And i thought we would settle privately. I was waiting for his call but he never call and I cannot contact him because he didn't wanted to give me his number.

So she only learned about it through the insurance company that called her up. I emailed her the photos I took of the car and the taxi thereafter. I don't know how she will write in the report?

Am I in serious trouble?

think his car door bumped into the car beside his when he tried to get out.

the guy talk and said he'll call to settle otside, end up insurance called.and my bro paid 3k for the guy to change his door because of a scratch or dent which the repair man said would take $200 to repair.

can claim lost of income /cost to rent another taxi,and all the rest of the other stuff haha.

maybe the driver thinks it's time to change bumper as well?

the guy settle with you privately will be at his own inconvenience but he claim your insurance can earn money somemore plus garage would even offer petrol vouchers to entrice him to up the cost.

so you think which why he'll go?

some taxi drivers even purposely jam brakes for this

then ask the garages to stop spreading this kind of stories around or even better stop getting "kissed" from behind with a sudden brake. you think it's a coincidence that taxi drivers and motorcyclist are considered the most dangerous vehicles on the road? I was flagging a cab once when another cab from the far side of the road speed up and cut in diagonally infront of the cab I was flagging.

you're probably a taxi driver for even suggesting slander lol try taking a cab yourself and ask other cabbies if they've heard any of their colleagues try stuff like this.

Huh what will happen next? Any idea?

My friend mom just showed me the insurance letter saying I failed to notify within 24hours. Breach of something. But the thing is I don't even know he was gonna file anything I thought we were going to settle among ourselves. He was nice at that time and said its okay he will call me but he didn't. I thought he decide to forget it because there isn't any damage/dent at all.

Nowadays hp have cameras.

Take pictures, minimum three pictures. More from diferent angles would be better.

Overview of accident, close up, and macro pic of damage area.

Usually they are ok people, but when they talk to their fiends, they will get ideas on not to be stupid.

Maybe you are new to the world of driving. Read the insurance manual on what to do when there is an accident.

It does not matter whether the other party says OK or not. Get particulars, take pictures. If no give particulars, ask one more time to confirm he does not want to give particulars (so that you can tell the court you ask him one more time). Make report to Insurance company to cover your backside.

If want to settle out of court, you need to get a written, sign note to say there will be no action taken. Both parties sign. Sometimes the amount of compensation is also stated in this note.

It is obvious you did not do all this, and if the Insurance company wash hands, you may have to bear the full compensation to the other party.

The only thing you can do is quickly go and find out from the Insurance company, what are your options. They may, or may not be able to help you in some ways.

Not all cabbies are like what.Got once a pte car bump into my taxi backside at CTE tunnel.His a young guy and not sure what the procudure.I told him not to worried, i ask for his particual and gave mine to him tooo.Told him if he want to pte settlement, call me within 12hrs, i got to go cos got pax inside the cab.He called me few hrs later and decide to do pte settlement of $200 which i find is acceptable.I passed him two form,both of us sign.He kept one I kept one.And i gave him a copy of pte settlement form and ask him to kept inside the car incase... He said sorry for the inconvenient.

From what I understand, TS technically have committed 'hit and run' since no report was made to insurance coy and in such cases, usually he have to bear all responsibilities, including claims and any TP offence, if any.

Dunno correct or not la, my friend ever kana similar incident and told me de.

I also do claims and motor insurance . To everyone, remember even if it is a small accident. Remember still must be written black and white. A safe way is no matter what is ht. Do mot be lazy .even if other party mentioned outside settlement. It will still be good to make a report at your insurance company for record purpose .this will not affect your NCD unless a claims is file in
