How Do Yellow Top Taxis Operate?

Couldn't find the correct title for my questions, which I can't seem to remember now.

How does 1 own a yellow top taxi?

Is the license to renew only for the owner and ceases when he retires?

I believe that for fares and rules, LTA sets them for yellow top, mostly based on CDG's lowest fare base - the Crowns.

I also know that any complaints about them , LTA handles directly (damn suay).

Can anyone (with TVDL) buy a yellow top? Do the current owners have to keep them for a set period (logical) and can then scrap and buy a replacement?

NB: I dunno if this is a good topic to ask, if Mods think it's better not to, by all means remove, I'm just curious, not as if I wanna buy 1 or got the cash to do so.

From my understanding....

Yellow-Top taxis are a collective group of individually-owned taxis in Singapore. They have a yellow top and black body, hence their name. They make up only 505 taxis in total.

These taxis are required to be replaced every eight years, or they may choose to have their licence acquired by Yellow-Top Cab and become a hirer of the taxi company. These taxis are expected to eventually cease to exist, however, as all new taxi drivers are required to hire their taxis from any of the Taxi Operator License holders.

They... basically just a Meter....

no card payment machines.... nothing..... unless they subscribe privately.

Likely they will have to join Walky Talkie Groups to have any access to jobs beside sweeping the roads.

Most are old drivers, still loyal to yellow top, just the young today loyal to bubble tea and Macdonalds, I loyal to bak kut teh

I was given a chance to takeover a Yellow Top for $3000 , and "tied down" with owner .

Meaning i buy the balance duration of the license , in his name , but i drive it .

Still worth it , can also rent out .

But only name his , the rest have to do ourself .
