2nd fatal hit-and-run
along the PIE in four days
cabby was killed in an accident along the Pan Island Expressway
(PIE) on early Friday morning, the second case of fatal hit-and-run
in just four days.
The 72-year-old was knocked by a car after he had pulled over
and gotten out of his taxi on the road shoulder of the PIE, after
the Eng Neo exit.
The collision flung his body several metres away onto the grass
verge. He was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the
scene.
The cabby had stopped his taxi to get a plastic bag from the
boot for his nauseous passenger.
Police said a vehicle licence plate found among the debris
helped establish the identity of the hit-and-run driver.
A 29-year-old suspect was arrested at his home four hours
later.
