EXPECT crowds and traffic congestion this Qing Ming Festival,
warns the National Environment Agency (NEA).
This year's Qing Ming falls on April 5, a Tuesday, and the NEA
expects a crowd at the Choa Chu Kang Cemetery and the four
government columbaria at Mandai, Yishun, Mount Vernon and Choa Chu
Kang on this day as well as the Good Friday holiday on April
22.
Starting from March 27, those going to pay their respects can
expect things to get a little congested every Sunday until the end
of the Qing Ming period.
The cemetery and columbaria will open from 6am to 7pm on the
peak days mentioned above, and 7am to 7pm on all other days.
NEA advises members of the public to utilise public transport,
especially during peak periods. A vacant lot has been converted
into a temporary carpark at the Choa Chu Kang Cemetery. If it is
full, drivers can park along the left hand side of the main
roads.
NEA has also increased the number of drum bins and burning pits
and urges Singaporeans to use them when burning offerings, in order
to the cemetary clean.
