SINGAPORE, July 27 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- (ISC)2(R) ("ISC-squared"),
the not-for-profit global leader in educating and certifying
information security professionals throughout their careers with
over 70,000 certified members worldwide, announced four
distinguished information security workforce initiatives led by the
most outstanding honorees at its fourth annual Asia-Pacific
Information Security Leadership Achievements (ISLA) Gala Dinner and
Ceremony last night in Singapore. The Guest of Honor, Mr. Chan Yeng
Kit, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Information for the
Communications and the Arts in Singapore, also attended the event
to support and congratulate the honorees.
Professor Robert H. Deng, professor and associate dean for Faculty
and Research School of Information Systems, Singapore Management
University, was recognized as "Community Service Star", a new ISLA
special recognition. "Community Service Star" was added this year
to the ISLA Program to recognize an honoree who has significantly
contributed to building or broadening security awareness within
their community.
"The ISLA Nomination Review Committee (NRC) selected Prof Deng to
be honored with the recognition because of his significant
contribution to the information security community through his work
on information security and sharing of that knowledge and expertise
to promote safety and security for Internet users. Prof Deng
advocates for industry education and standards through his
participation in information security education and training to
professionals across the region, as well as through his volunteer
work with various information security standards committees to keep
infocomm security up to date with the latest demands and
technologies," said Freddy Tan, CISSP, member of NRC and vice
chairperson, Board of Directors, (ISC)2.
Prof. Deng was also recognized as one of the showcased honorees in
the Senior Information Security Professional category. Prof. Deng
has dedicated the last two decades of his career to security
engineering and research. He was recognized for his innovative
application of security techniques in the real world.
"As information technology continues to reach into every corner of
our lives, the digital age also raises serious concerns about
information security," said Prof. Deng. "The most vital sectors of
our economy -- manufacturing, telecommunication, banking and
finance, transportation and emergency service -- are potentially
susceptible to disruptions by individual and organized hackers and
cyber terrorists. There is an imperative need for more research on
information security, for applying state-of-the-art information
security techniques in the real world and for heightening the
information security awareness of Internet users. I am very happy
that my colleagues and I have contributed to these efforts. The
recognition and award by (ISC)2 is an encouragement for me to
further my research and outreach activities."

Professional category was Mr. Dong Hoon Park, CEO, NICS Tech Co.,
South Korea. Mr. Park was honored for playing a pivotal role in the

industry by facilitating communication throughout the international
community.
Mr. Park said, "While serving as chairperson of the Korea
Information Security Industry Association (KISIA) from February
2008 to February 2010, my peers and I successfully implemented
diverse information security policies and systems adopted at the
governmental level. I dedicate this recognition to all my peers,

Mr. Inagaki was unable to attend the Gala Dinner, but his remarks
were recorded in a short video clip, where he commented, "I believe
that the enhanced information security education program is very
important for both the technical security workforce and legal
workforce in order to harmonize information security with legal

Asia-Pacific."

for
several years, including the (ISC)2 Affiliated Local Interest

Mr. Chow said, "I am eternally grateful for my ISLA recognition,
not only for the positive affect it's had on me but also for the
overwhelmingly positive influence it's had on my colleagues. They
are all encouraged to live up to the high standard that the ISLA
