In addition to Gardner, the Wealth Expo 2012 will
also feature local success stories like Adam Khoo, Conrad Alvin
Lim, Yeo Keong Hee and other celebrity speakers who have made it to
the top of their field.
Making his first appearance in Singapore, Gardner is
the inspiration for the acclaimed movie The Pursuit of Happyness
released by Columbia Pictures in December 2006 for which Will
Smith, starring as Gardner, received Golden Globe(R), Screen Actors
Guild and Academy Award(R) nominations for his performance. In the
same year, Gardner's autobiography based on his rags-to-riches tale
topped the New York Times and Washington Post #1 best-seller lists
and has been translated into more than 30 languages. His second
best-selling book, Start Where You Are: Life Lessons in Getting
from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be, was published in May
2009.
With over USD160 million in box office sales
worldwide, The Pursuit of Happyness movie is an account of
Gardner's life story that took a series of extraordinary turns.
Just 20 years ago, he was homeless, trying to support his son as a
single parent. Often spending his nights in a church shelter or the
bathroom at a Bay Area Rapid Transit station in Oakland, Gardner
was the sole trainee offered a job at Dean Witter Reynolds in 1981.
He spent 1983-1987 at Bear Stearns & Co., where he became a top
earner, and then in 1987, he founded the brokerage firm Gardner
Rich LLC. in Chicago.
Today, Gardner reaches out to many programs serving
the homeless, donating time and assistance. He also serves as a
board member of the National Fatherhood Initiative, whose mission
is to improve the well-being of children by increasing the
proportion of children growing up with involved, responsible, and
committed fathers. Gardner was the recipient of the group's Father
of the Year Award in 2002.
In the fall of 2010, Gardner was named the
Ambassador of Pursuit and Happyness for AARP, which has nearly 40
million members worldwide.
Conquering grave challenges to become a successful
entrepreneur, Gardner is an avid inspirational speaker, addressing
the keys to helping others achieve their full potential by
overcoming obstacles and breaking cycles. He is also a passionate
philanthropist committed to organizations combating violence
against women, homelessness, and financial illiteracy; issues of
the utmost importance to Gardner.
Adam Khoo, Executive Chairman of Adam Khoo Learning
Technologies Group, is responsible for bringing Chris Gardner to
