THE Singapore Democratic Party's Holland Bukit Timah team had
said in a hand-written note put up on the Greenridge Secondary
nomination centre notice board that People's Action Party candidate
Sim Ann is still in the civil service. They said she had
'identified herself as 'unemployed', adding that this was a
'misrepresentation'.
The whole SDP team had signed the note, and asked the Returning
Officer to declare her candidacy 'null and void'.
However, the Returning Officer at the centre said he has
considered both of SDP's objections and has decided to overrule
them.
The objection was put up just before the 12.30pm deadline for
objections.
SDP's Holland-Bukit Timah candidate Vincent Wijeysingha told The
Straits Times that the SDP was not given any reasons why their
objections were overruled.
Ms Sim, 36, was with the civil service for the last 12 years,
working in several ministries.
She began volunteering at the grassroots level in 2002 and
became a member of the Bukit Timah Citizens' Consultative Committee
in 2003.
