SINGAPORE: Alex Tan, who is on loan from the
Singapore People's Party (SPP) to the Reform Party (RP), told
Channel NewsAsia that he will likely be part of the Reform Party
team which is keen to contest Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's Ang
Mo Kio GRC.
Mr Tan said the paper work has not been done yet but he will
officially join the Reform Party once a confirmation is made that
it will contest Ang Mo Kio.
Mr Tan said the purpose of contesting at Ang Mo Kio is to prevent a
walkover and give residents the chance to vote.
He refuted claims by some that the move to contest the GRC is a
tactic to keep the Prime Minister busy during the polls and to
allow him less time to help other PAP candidates at other
wards.
He said, "The PM has been doing a good job but he needs a report
card", adding that the percentage of votes Mr Lee gets will be a
gauge of his performance in the last five years.
Another SPP member on loan to RP - Mr Jay Ting, is also expected to
be part of the RP team hoping to contest Ang Mo Kio GRC.
