I think its a foregone conclusion that they will increase GST to 10%. in 2011, you will receive GST credits of $700 to cope with the implementation of 10% GST in 2012.

What do you think of this likelihood happening?

They already promised during the first payout... 1% increase in GST every workyear. They only increased by 2% after 5 years from 5% to 7%.

10% is guaranteed and you have already received the payout long ago.

of course it will happen haha. Everytime when the budget has goodies, you can be sure they will get it back. Better run for cover. The last time they gave the progress package during 2006, they were so confident that they would recover it with the raised GST. It's been long planned.

Raising the gst will in fact, pushing the lower salary group even more tight in their saving and financial planning for their future.

It's a foregone conclusion that GST will increase as "the economy is restructuring and we need to have a more tiered tax system as there will be more tourist receipts due to the increased tourism arrival figures"

They can have seperate tax for gst especially for those in shopping centers and for resturants or hotels etc...

The gst will stay/remain without further increased. But have another seperate gst name as Gst Tax.

So for pple like me or others where we shop at ntuc or any supermarkets or any coffee shop, we will only charge gst minus out the gst tax.

Gst tax is meant for high income earners.

Lowest income group holder least affected with GST increase. Cos they usually get subsidies. Not forgetting they do not have many needs. Basic necessities dun go up that much - they are usually affected more when things like rice, oil, sugar go up due to weather changes etc.

Salaried middle to high income earners most affected, IMO. They buy lots of stuff and GST increase eats up their pay if their incomes remain the same.

Businessman passes on the cost of GST to consumers. LOL.. Govt gets more revenue.
