SINGAPORE: The National Solidarity Party (NSP) has
announced that it will field lawyer Jeannette Chong-Aruldoss as its
candidate for the single-member constituency of Mountbatten in the
upcoming General Election.
In a statement on Sunday, Ms Chong said Mountbatten is very close
to her heart as she had lived there as a child and in the early
years of her marriage.
She said she wants to use her candidacy in Mountbatten as an avenue
for residents to have their own voice in Parliament.
47-year-old Ms Chong has been a lawyer for 22 years.
She plans to address issues such as the growing income disparity
between the rich and the poor, healthcare expenses of the elderly,
as well as the rising costs of living.
Ms Chong earned her law degree from the United Kingdom and was
called to the English Bar in 1986. She also holds a Masters Degree
in Corporate and Commercial Law from the London School of Economics
and Political Science. She regularly offers her legal services to
lower-income Singaporeans and was an Honorary Secretary of a church
council in Katong from 2006 to 2010.
Since 2008, she has been serving in the management council of a
residential estate in Siglap, comprising over 1,000 units.
Ms Chong is married and has four children, who are between 12 and
21 years old.
