Opposition figures air key issues at dialogue

SIX opposition leaders came together for a dialogue last night, giving an early glimpse of where their parties stood on key national issues.

Topics like housing and the role of the media got an airing, alongside a wide range of other matters from the Internal Security Act (ISA) to national service.

And while the political parties differed slightly on some issues, there was clear consensus on their rallying cry: Get more opposition voices into Parliament.

Throughout the 21/2-hour session at the Quality Hotel in Balestier, the different opposition leaders took turns calling for change and taking jibes at the People's Action Party (PAP). Often, these calls were met with cheers or applause from the largely partisan crowd of 350 that showed up.

Socialist Front secretary-general Chia Ti Lik, for instance, called for the PAP to be given a 'black eye'. Answering a question about HDB prices, he said: 'The changes have to be made and the changes can only be made if we give the PAP a black eye at the next general election.'

The forum, titled Face To Face, was organised by socio-political website The Online Citizen (TOC) to mark its fourth anniversary.

I hope for more opposition representation.

Its a fact that the opposition are getting better this time round with the recruitment of members who are well educated and some can really speak good english unlike Mr MeeSiam mai hum.

Dun forget to add in 100,000 who voted the opposition but migrated out and 100,000 new voters who would vote for ruling (common sense you dun like this country then leave the country and you joined this country cos u like this country).

And also... 100,000 voters (66.6%) and 100,000 unknown new voters. LOL....

dun forget same thing applies to those who left singapore for better opportunities... doesnt mean they are hardcore opposition supporters oso.... so its a trade off .... so that would be like the same overall... lets assume lah.

PAP didnt attend....no balls. Or maybe they think their ivory towers are too high for such mundane dialogues.

If PM Lee had gone and he couldnt answer the questions nor substantiate his arguments, very malu right LOL. He doesnt have the gift of the gab like his daddy. Old man might have attended.

Or maybe he thinks such dialogues don't warrant his $3m a year salary.

PAP attend, the opposition will attack PAP. Some more these 350 people who are there are all politicised people, not youth, not uni students, not PAP dogs leh.

Lee Hsien Loong go there talk PAP cock, they will attack and criticise.

If depoliticised audience, the PAP will dare to attend, but if the audience is politicised, the PAP won't dare to attend.

They know all their arguments are bullshit, can only sell to political morons.
