THE stump-like stools built near the lift doors at Block 169
Stirling Road are good for seniors who need to sit while waiting
for the lifts ('Stirling Road block gets seats at lift landings';
last Saturday).
However, each seat can sit only one person, and they tend to
clutter up the lift landing.
A more aesthetically pleasing alternative may be to build a
bench against a wall or wide pillar nearby. This bench could be
long enough to sit two to four people. Low arm-rests could be built
at both ends of the bench to prevent people from falling over.
The arm-rests will also discourage people from lying down or
sleeping on the bench. The wall or pillar behind the bench will
provide a back-rest for elderly residents to sit safely and
comfortably.
